Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s home was built in 1851. Prince Albert designed the garden terraces, the lower of which was opened to the public for the first time on 26 August. The bedroom where Queen Victoria died is on show.
We also visited nearby Whippingham Church, which has many links with the Mountbatten family.
We left Church Place, Romsey, at 9am to catch a car ferry leaving Southampton at 10am and arrived at Osborne at 11.30. Returning on the 4.30 pm ferry, we arrived back in Romsey by about 6.15pm. It was a very enjoyable day out.
On Sunday 28 August, we enjoyed a delicious strawberry tea with home-made shortbread in the Vicarage garden, by kind invitation of the Revd. Tim and Mrs Caroline Sledge. This was a lovely opportunity to meet other members in informal surroundings.
We continued to Evensong in the Abbey, where Friends received a special welcome.
