Judith Beton, a member of the Abbey Vine congregation, gave a fascinating talk to the Friends of Romsey Abbey and other guests on Friday 24th October as part of the Etheflaeda Festival. Judith’s recent research for a Masters degree had established that Romsey Abbey, as one of just six Royal Nunneries, played a critical part in the religious and political developments of the late Saxon period right up to the Norman Conquest.
During the interval Adrienne Mordan and friends supplied a wonderful range of puddings which were eagerly devoured by everyone present.
This was a very popular event, being sold out with a waiting list long before the night itself, and plans are already being formulated for a repeat sometime in 2026. So all those people who were disappointed to miss this first presentation will get the opportunity to hear firsthand the story of this important piece of Romsey’s history. Do watch out for news of the date: you won’t be disappointed!
