So, off the Friends went again, taking to water this time. The middle of August saw 49 members travel by coach from Romsey to Runnymede to enjoy a cruise on the River Thames to Windsor on the Windsor Sceptre. Current weather conditions may have caused a bit of a worry for some but whilst water levels on the river were low after the many months of drought, the navigation was open and the boat was able to travel upstream through Old Windsor and Romney locks. The Friends enjoyed the classic view of Windsor Castle across the Home Park seeing the Castle again from the centre of the town. On the return downstream, the boat cruised past Magna Carta Island.
Mercifully, the high temperatures of recent days had fallen and the cruise was blessed by warm, sunny weather. A delicious luncheon had been prepared by the boat’s caterers and a very happy day was much enjoyed by the FRA members.
Since 2015 annual trips have been taken by members of the FRA on the water some on a canal and the last six on the River Thames.
Look on the Events page for more exciting trips and outings during the remaining part of the year and don’t forget the next Coffee Morning on Friday September.
