The church is situated at the top of a hill. It is believed there was a Saxon church there built for and endowed by a local landowner. The Great Yew-Tree, 15 feet in girth in 1793 is now more than 20 feet. It was carbon dated in the mid 1980’s and a certificate stating it is over 1,000 years old can be found on the wall of the church by the font
